In its standard form, AirPlay allows content to be thrown to an Apple TV or any AirPlay-compatible devices, of which the Xbox One is not one. Now, though, after spending the $14.99 for AirServer via the Microsoft Store, anyone with an Xbox One can take advantage of AirPlay, casting their content from the small screen onto the big one. A new app called OneCast claims to bring Xbox One game streaming to Mac users for the first time natively, a feature that Microsoft only officially supports for Windows users. OneCast is an app available for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV (also with versions for Android and macOS) that streams your Xbox One games to any supported device, in high definition video with near-zero lag. OneCast is a commercial app, which allows Mac users to stream Xbox games by connecting an Xbox console to any Mac running Yosemite or later, without the need for powerful hardware, or a Windows 10 virtual sandbox. The app has no known affiliation with Microsoft, nor the Xbox team, and it boasts some important features, such as: Being able to. If you have an Xbox One, though, you’ve now got a decent alternative for streaming games to your Mac in the form of the new OneCast app. For just $10 (regular price $20) and a decent internet.
While things have started to change recently, Microsoft wasn't known for showing a lot of love to Mac users. Windows 10 have been able to stream Xbox One games to their computers for a long time, but there is no way to do this on macOS, at least not without a third-party tool.
OneCast is just that tool. It allows you to stream games from your Xbox One console directly to your Mac, and it all seems surprisingly simple. You just need to make sure your Mac and Xbox One are on the same network, enable streaming on your console, and then log in to your Microsoft account from your Mac.
Given that this isn't an official Microsoft app, it's amazing that it works as well as it does, begging the question of why an official option isn't available. Maybe Microsoft will get around to it at some point.
As with any game streaming service, it's important to ensure adequate network speed is available. Connection via a LAN cable is preferable, but if you're tired of dragging wires around, make sure that your router supports 5Ghz Wi-Fi, as this will provide much better performance than 2.4Ghz.
